OpenAI’s ChatGPT, the popular AI-powered tool, is set to redefine human-AI interaction with its latest feature—a voice conversation capability. OpenAI has announced that ChatGPT will now be able to respond to users’ questions and engage in continuous chats through verbal conversations. This enhancement brings users closer to the experience of interacting with a human-like chatbot.
The all-new feature will enable users to have back-and-forth conversations with ChatGPT. It begins with users asking a question, and they have the option to manually end the conversation or simply stop speaking, at which point ChatGPT will respond. What’s more, users can even interrupt when the AI is speaking and continue the conversation seamlessly.
According to OpenAI, users can now request bedtime stories for their families or settle debates at the dinner table using ChatGPT’s voice feature. This brings the experience closer to interacting with other AI-powered assistants like Google Assistant, Alexa, and Siri.
Initially, ChatGPT’s voice feature will be available exclusively on its Android and iOS apps. Users can find the opt-in feature in the Settings menu, under the ‘New Features’ section. Once activated, users can tap the headphone icon at the top-right corner of the home screen and select their preferred voice from five available options.
To further enhance the user experience, OpenAI is also introducing the ‘voice and images’ capability for ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise users. This feature allows users to have live conversations with ChatGPT while sharing images. For example, users can take pictures of their refrigerator and pantry and ask ChatGPT for dinner recipes. Additionally, students can capture images of math problems and receive hints and assistance from ChatGPT. The voice and images feature will be rolled out within the next two weeks.
