Viral Photos Shed Light on Tragic Fate of Missing Manipuri Students: Investigation Commences
The distressing photographs of two missing Manipuri students have caused outrage as they circulate on various social media platforms. These images capture moments both before and after their tragic demise.
Among the pictures is one that shows the two students alongside two armed individuals, while another displays their lifeless bodies. The victims have been identified as 17-year-old Hijam Linthoingambi and 20-year-old Phijam Hemjit.
The release of these recent images comes shortly after another shocking incident in which two Kuki women were humiliated and paraded by a mob on May 4. A video of this appalling act surfaced on July 19.
Previously, the police had stated that the whereabouts of the two missing students were unknown, and their mobile phones were found switched off. The last known location of their phones had been traced to Lamdan, near the winter flower tourist spot in the Churachandpur district.
Following the images’ viral spread, the Manipur government has called for calm and urged the public to allow authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the kidnapping and killing of the two students.
Late on Monday night, a statement from the secretariat of Chief Minister N Biren Singh revealed that the case has been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The state police, in collaboration with the central security agencies, are actively investigating the case to determine the circumstances surrounding their disappearance and to identify the perpetrators who murdered the two students. The security forces have also started the search operation to nab the perpetrators, the statement highlighted.
In response to the disseminated photos, heightened security measures have been implemented, and security personnel have been placed on alert to prevent any potential incidents, according to a senior officer quoted by PTI.
The government is committed to ensuring justice and will impose severe punishment on any perpetrator found responsible for this heinous crime, the statement emphasized.
As investigations unfold, the world waits for answers, seeking justice for the two innocent souls whose lives were cut short.
