Brainobrain Kids Academy, a leading self-empowerment institute for children and pioneer of abacus education in India, organized a global walkathon on June 11, 2023, to raise awareness about mental health promotion among children. The Chennai event drew over 500 participants of all ages, including children, teenagers, and adults, who walked from Hindi Prachar Sabha, T Nagar, to Venkatnarayana Road via Pondy Bazaar and Panagal Park. The theme of Positive Mental Health for Children involved slogans, placards, and flyers that encourage taking breaks from electronic devices and creating social platforms to promote mental health among kids.
Anand Subramaniam, Managing Director of Brainobrain Kids Academy, flagged off the event. He said that mental health has become a growing concern for parents, educators, and healthcare professionals worldwide, and it is the institute’s responsibility to recognize the challenges and advocate for children’s mental health protection. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 20% of children worldwide have a mental health condition, with suicide being the second leading cause of death among individuals aged 15-29.
The walkathon was part of Brainobrain’s global awareness initiative held in 500+ locations worldwide, marking the institute’s 20th anniversary.
At Brainobrain, children receive a holistic education program that includes abacus acumen, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) skills, and personality development. The program aims to empower children with the skills and knowledge necessary for their physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
The walkathon was only the first in a series of events planned throughout the year to promote positive changes in children’s mental health.
