Posters commemorating the victims of the Chotta Bazaar massacre have resurfaced in Srinagar, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, on the eve of their martyrdom anniversary. The posters were pasted on walls, polls and pillars across the city by Jammu and Kashmir Political Resistance Movement (JKPRM), Sada-i-Mazloom Jammu and Kashmir, and Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Movement (JKDM).
The Chotta Bazaar massacre took place on June 11, 1991, when over 30 individuals, including women and children, were allegedly targeted by Indian Paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, resulting in their brutal martyrdoms.
These posters shed light on the ongoing struggle for freedom in the state and how it will continue until the implementation of the United Nations resolutions. Furthermore, the posters ask India to revert its decision of August 5, 2019, which undermines the identity and disputed nature of Jammu and Kashmir. The message also urges the locals to express solidarity with the victim families and to resist BJP-RSS regime’s heinous attempt to change the demographic nature of the region.
The resurgence of these posters acts as a reminder that people are still fighting for their rights and the world must continue to support them. The JKPRM, Sada-i-Mazloom Jammu and Kashmir, and Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Movement (JKDM) continue to stay resilient in their attempts to highlight the plight of the oppressed people of India’s illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. These posters serve as a call for solidarity and action towards the innocent individuals who lost their lives in the unfortunate Chotta Bazaar massacre.
