A Shocking Acid Attack in Delhi: Mother-in-Law Arrested for Assault on Daughter-in-Law
In a distressing incident that unfolded in New Usmanpur, Delhi, a woman has been arrested for pouring acid on her daughter-in-law. The victim, who is 22 years old, sustained significant burns and is currently receiving treatment at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital. The police provided information about the incident, revealing that it occurred on September 20 when a 49-year-old woman named Anjali poured acid on her daughter-in-law out of anger.
Following the attack, Anjali fled the scene along with the rest of her family, but the police successfully apprehended her in Sant Nagar, located in Delhi’s Burari district. The authorities suspect that the attack may have been triggered by a property dispute between the victim and her mother-in-law. Anjali had previously filed an eviction suit against her daughter-in-law in Karkardooma Court.
The victim, who has been married for two years and is a mother to a six-month-old daughter, was admitted to JPC Hospital with 25 percent burns resulting from the acid attack. From there, she was transferred to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, where she continues to receive treatment for her burns.
The Delhi Police has registered a case against Anjali under sections 323, 326A, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the New Usmanpur Police Station. They are diligently investigating the matter to gather more details surrounding the incident.
Upon receiving a complaint from the victim, the Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) promptly issued a notice to the Delhi Police. In the notice, the DCW chairperson demanded the immediate arrest of the accused mother-in-law and called for strict action against the person who sold the acid to Anjali. The victim, in her complaint, alleged that she has been subjected to harassment by her in-laws. Furthermore, she claimed that her husband had assaulted her, resulting in the miscarriage of her two-and-a-half-month-old pregnancy.
