Mother of Three Fatally Stabbed in Hemet After Confrontation with Drug Users
A tragic incident unfolded in Hemet earlier this week when a mother of three lost her life after confronting a pair of individuals engaged in drug activity outside her home. The victim, identified as 28-year-old Shawna Weems, had the courage to stand up for her family and ask the drug users to move away. Little did she know that this simple request would escalate into a devastating tragedy.
The distressing incident took place around 12:20 a.m. on Monday, in the vicinity of Weems’ apartment located on South Gilbert Street. Hemet Police Department promptly responded to the scene, where they discovered Weems suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite their efforts, the victim tragically succumbed to her injuries while receiving medical treatment at the hospital.
According to a witness, the altercation quickly escalated into a heated argument before the fatal stabbing occurred. The suspects, believed to be responsible for the vicious attack, then fled the scene in a recreational vehicle (RV). We can only hope that justice will be served swiftly for the grieving family left behind.
Family members described Shawna Weems as a vivacious and vibrant person who brought light and joy wherever she went. Her sister, Hailey Caristy, lovingly referred to her as a sassy, fierce, beautiful ray of sunshine. Weems was deeply devoted to her children, whom she cherished above all else. Her family remembers her as an exceptional mother, even though they had only connected three years ago through online channels. The bond they shared made it feel as if they had grown up together.
On Friday, Hemet police announced a significant development in their investigation. They arrested 27-year-old Autumn Goodwin, who is now facing charges related to the crime. Goodwin was apprehended after authorities executed a search warrant at her residence on Vista Del Monte. She has been booked into custody and is currently being held on $1 million bail. The arrest provides a glimmer of hope that the responsible parties will be held accountable for their actions.
To honor the memory of Shawna Weems, a vigil has been scheduled to take place outside the apartment complex where she tragically lost her life. The vigil, planned for Saturday at 6 p.m., will be an opportunity for the community to come together, pay their respects, and show support for the grieving family during this incredibly difficult time.
As this investigation unfolds, Hemet police are urging the public to come forward with any additional information they may have. Detective Daniel Cortez can be reached at (951) 765-2433.
The heart-wrenching story of Shawna Weems’ untimely death serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences that can arise from confronting dangerous situations. It is a tragic reminder that even small actions taken in the interest of our loved ones can have unimaginable outcomes. Let us hope that justice will be served and that Weems’ family finds solace in the midst of their grief.
