A minister in Manipur has installed a drop box outside his residence, encouraging citizens to return weapons that have been looted or snatched from police during the recent unrest. The violent unrest began on 3 May and it is believed more than 4,000 weapons have been stolen in two waves of attack. Of these, roughly 800 have been returned. The banner beside the drop box reads: Please drop your snatched weapons here and Feel free to do so. Locals have said they are too scared to go to the police and have instead been visiting the drop box, which can be used 24 hours a day and is operated with the assistance of the police.
