Punjab Police Launches Intensive Crackdown on Electricity Thieves
In a bid to combat the rising problem of electricity theft in Punjab, the Punjab Police has launched an intensive crackdown on those involved in this illegal activity. With over 1000 cases being registered daily against electricity thieves, the police are determined to put an end to this detrimental practice that is causing significant financial losses to the national exchequer.
Inspector General Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, released a special video message announcing the intensified crackdown. He emphasized the need to target anti-national and anti-social elements who are engaged in electricity theft, which results in an estimated annual loss of 600 billion rupees to the country’s treasury. Dr. Usman Anwar further highlighted that the amount stolen through electricity theft surpasses the collective losses caused by crimes such as dacoity, robbery, and kidnapping over a 15-year period.
Under the directives of the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of Punjab, the Punjab Police is sparing no effort in bringing those involved in electricity theft to justice. The crackdown encompasses all areas of the province, including the city of Lahore. Dr. Usman Anwar warned that no leniency would be shown towards those found guilty of stealing electricity, regardless of whether they are in villages, cities, factories, or commercial establishments.
The methods employed by electricity thieves vary, ranging from illegal connections to direct tampering with meters or transformers. Regardless of the technique used, the Punjab Police is determined to deal with these perpetrators firmly. Dr. Usman Anwar also emphasized the burden placed on innocent citizens and consumers who are forced to pay the bills for these thefts, having worked hard to earn their money.
The launch of this crackdown is a significant step towards curbing electricity theft and safeguarding the national exchequer. The Punjab Police’s efforts in bringing electricity thieves to justice are commendable, as they strive to maintain law and order in the province. By tackling this issue head-on, Punjab aims to protect its resources and ensure a fair and just society for all.
