Texas Governor Declares Border Invasion and Deploys National Guard to Stem Illegal Immigration Surge
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has declared an invasion at the southern border due to a significant surge in illegal immigration and has ordered the deployment of the National Guard to manage the crisis. Gov. Abbott blames President Joe Biden’s policies for the influx and believes that urgent measures are necessary to address the situation.
To address the crisis, Gov. Abbott stated, We deployed the Texas National Guard, DPS & local law enforcement. We are building a border wall, razor wire & marine barriers. We are also repelling migrants. This action is in line with the governor’s promise to build a border wall and allocate $1 billion for border security in the state budget.
In a letter written to President Biden, Gov. Abbott criticized the administration for the highest volume of illegal immigration the country has ever witnessed. He argued that President Biden’s policies have led to catastrophic consequences, resulting in the vulnerability of homes and the destruction of ranches in Texas. Gov. Abbott emphasized that the president has failed in his constitutional responsibility to protect states against invasion.
The Republican party, including former President Donald Trump, has also blamed the Biden administration for the surge in illegal border crossings. They argue that the Biden administration’s messaging and policies have created a historic and unprecedented crisis at the border.
The border town of Eagle Pass, Texas, has declared a state of disaster due to the overwhelming influx of illegal immigrants. Thousands of migrants have crossed into Eagle Pass in recent days, straining the city’s resources. To alleviate this pressure, the city has issued an emergency declaration to seek federal and state resources.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has temporarily halted vehicle processing operations at a bridge and railway crossing in Eagle Pass to focus on apprehending individuals who cross the border illegally. The Department of Defense (DOD) is also increasing resources at the U.S.-Mexico border to address the surge in illegal crossings.
The situation at the southern border continues to evolve, with over 8,000 apprehensions recorded in a single day. However, the cause of the latest surge remains unclear.
The Texas government’s decision to declare an invasion and deploy the National Guard highlights the severity of the situation at the southern border. As illegal immigration continues to surge, it remains to be seen how the Biden administration will address the concerns raised by Governor Abbott and the Republican party. The crisis at the border has become a significant challenge, requiring immediate attention and comprehensive solutions.
