The Department of School Education in Jammu and Kashmir has introduced a Biometric Attendance System to ensure attendance by employees in government schools. Although the system has not been implemented 100%, there has been a significant improvement in the attendance of teachers since its introduction.
The Beach Model Higher Secondary School Savjian in the border district of Poonch in Jammu province has become the first government school in Jammu and Kashmir where biometric attendance of students has also been started. The school has always been in the headlines for taking unique initiatives.
With 276 students studying from ninth to twelfth standard in this remote area, the students are showing great interest in attending biometric machines. Implementing such a system will help improve the education system and its quality.
According to the school’s Principal, Anwar Khan, apart from the attendance aspect, the biometric attendance system has other benefits. It makes it easier to send the attendance file to parents in pdf format so that they can keep track of their children’s attendance. Additionally, the school has established a good laboratory and library, and continuously organizes various extracurricular activities, seminars, quizzes, and debate competitions to improve students’ overall development.
Yesterday, the District Magistrate Poonch Yasin Chaudhary visited the school, praised the facilities available there, and asked many questions of the students. Principal Anwar Khan is known as one of the best teachers in Jammu and Kashmir. He has been DIET Poonch for many years and has imparted training to teachers and lecturers in state-level workshops and orientation programs.
Overall, the Biometric Attendance System has been implemented successfully in the school in Jammu and Kashmir, and it is hoped that more schools will adopt this system to improve the attendance of both students and teachers and ultimately improve the quality of education in the region.
