German electronic music pioneers, Tangerine Dream, have made their mark in the world of Hollywood film scores. Often compared to fellow trailblazers Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream’s unique sound and lush arrangements have captivated movie creators, making them a top choice for scoring films.
In a recent interview, bandleader Thorsten Quaeschning shared insights into their creative process. Describing it as an everlasting evolving and morphing process, he emphasized learning from every note played and combining various synthesizers from different decades to achieve the sound envisioned in their heads. Quaeschning also highlighted the role Edgar Froese, the late founder of Tangerine Dream, played in shaping the group’s vision and the importance of deeper intentions and emotions in their music.
Despite the absence of original members following Froese’s passing, Tangerine Dream continues to thrive as a concept rather than a traditional band. Quaeschning, alongside Hishoki Yamane and Paul Frick, took to the stage at the glamorous Vermont Hollywood club for a captivating performance. Surrounded by an array of synthesizers and computer equipment, the trio exemplified perfect synchronization.
