On Sunday, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav called for the removal of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from all 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, in order to defeat them in the 2024 General Elections. Yadav also criticized the current state government for a deteriorating law and order situation. In a statement issued, Yadav claimed that the ongoing state of crime and corruption under the BJP government in UP is alarming and suggested that it has become prevalent due to nonexistent ease of doing business. Furthermore, Yadav raised questions regarding the possible involvement of senior officials in corruption under the BJP government. In response, BJP MP Harnath Singh Yadav dismissed Yadav’s claims and stated that the Samajwadi Party should focus on winning at least one Lok Sabha seat in Varanasi.
