Mumbai, one of India’s largest cities, is witnessing a surge in new COVID-19 cases as the much-awaited Ganeshotsav festival begins. On Saturday alone, Mumbai reported 365 new cases, bringing the overall tally to 734,702. Unfortunately, the death toll also rose to 16,015 with four additional fatalities that day.
The number of daily recoveries in the city has seen a recent decline. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), 232 individuals were cured of COVID-19 on Saturday. However, Mumbai has an impressive recovery rate of 97%, with a total of 711,554 discharges recorded so far. Currently, the city has 4,666 active cases.
Analyzing the growth rate of COVID-19 cases from September 4 to September 10, it stands at 0.06%. Additionally, the doubling rate in Mumbai is reported to be 1,185 days. Currently, there are 43 sealed buildings within the jurisdiction of the BMC, while there are no active containment zones, including slums and chawls, in the city.
The surge in new cases in Mumbai is a cause for concern as the festive season kicks off with Ganeshotsav. Authorities will need to remain vigilant and implement necessary measures to curb the spread of the virus. Vaccination efforts should also be intensified to protect the population and ensure a safer celebration.
As the city continues to battle the ongoing pandemic, it is crucial for individuals to adhere to safety protocols, such as wearing masks, practicing social distancing, and following hygiene guidelines. These collective efforts can help mitigate the risk of transmission and protect the health and well-being of Mumbai’s residents.
