The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), which comes under the Ministry of Commerce, has slipped from 24th to 27th in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking, released by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The ranking evaluated higher educational institutions in the country based on objective criteria to promote competitive excellence in such institutions. IIFT, established in 1963 as an autonomous body to contribute to skill building for India’s external trade sector, fell in parameters like teaching learning and resources and research and professional practice. Responding to this dip in ranking, IIFT mentioned that it would increase efforts to incentivize research publications for further improvement.
