India has witnessed an incredible surge in the growth of startups in the last nine years, rising 300 times from just around 350 to over 90,000 startups with more than 100 unicorns. These statistics were shared by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, during the opening ceremony of the two-day Young Startup Expo organized by CSIR-IIIM.
Dr. Singh emphasized that his government was prioritizing Jammu and Kashmir and that the expo would give entrepreneurs in the region an opportunity to explore new avenues for industry. He further added that India’s youth has an abundance of talent, capability, innovation, and creativity, but they require a conducive atmosphere and proper support from political leadership, which the Prime Minister Modi administration provides.
The Director of CSIR-IIIM, Dr. Zabeer Ahmad, referred to the day as historic for Udhampur, which had been selected to host the two-day startup expo. He urged locals to attend the event to learn more about the benefits of startups, which provide engines of economic growth in niche sectors, creating new job opportunities.
Young Startup Expo provides a platform for entrepreneurs to showcase their business ideas, get in touch with investors, and network with other start-ups. The event is an opportunity to discover new markets, sources of funding, gain knowledge about cutting-edge technologies, and access mentorship from industry experts.
Dr. Singh’s announcement about the significant increase in startups in India is a testament to the government’s support for entrepreneurship in the country. The focus on startups and small businesses is crucial to driving economic growth, job creation and ensuring India’s place as a global leader in innovation.
In conclusion, India’s startup ecosystem is thriving, and events like the Young Startup Expo play a critical role in its development. The government’s continued efforts to support startups will undoubtedly continue to provide the much-needed impetus to the entrepreneurial landscape in India.
