Former Test Cricketer Stuart MacGill Charged in Alleged Cocaine Deal – Facing Potential Life Sentence
Stuart MacGill, a former Australian test cricketer, has been charged in connection with an alleged cocaine deal that could result in a potential life sentence. The 52-year-old leg-spinner was arrested after a friend provided information to the police, claiming that MacGill was involved in arranging a one-kilogram cocaine transaction worth $300,000.
The friend, whose identity remains anonymous due to a court order, alleged that MacGill had a debt of $1,000, which was supposedly cleared after he organized the cocaine deal. Following police investigations, MacGill presented himself at Chatswood police station in Sydney on Tuesday evening.
MacGill has been charged with one count of participating in the supply of a large commercial quantity of cocaine. This new charge carries a maximum punishment of life imprisonment. However, he has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear before the Manly Local Court on October 26.
According to the police, the alleged deal involved one party agreeing to sell a kilogram of cocaine to the other for over $330,000. This development comes after MacGill made headlines in April 2021 when he claimed to have been kidnapped by three masked attackers in Sydney. He was taken to a rural property, where he was stripped and assaulted.
Three individuals, including MacGill’s former brother-in-law Marino Sotiropoulos, and brothers Frederick Schaaf and Richard Schaaf, have been charged in connection with the alleged attack. Their cases are currently pending in court. MacGill had previously informed the police that he was forcibly taken to a property where he was beaten and threatened with harm unless he paid $150,000.
During his alleged ordeal, MacGill maintained that he was innocent and that he only introduced the two men involved, but was not involved in the drug deal itself. The new charge against him reportedly arose from new information obtained by the police.
MacGill had previously given interviews denying any involvement in cocaine supply. He revealed that the incident had left him terrified, prompting him to seek refuge in different locations for several weeks. He even resorted to traveling in the trunk of his girlfriend’s car to ensure his safety.
Stuart MacGill is a former cricketer who represented Australia in 44 test matches between 1998 and 2008, taking 208 wickets. Now, he is facing serious legal consequences if found guilty in connection with the alleged cocaine deal.
