La Liga Signs Agreement to Establish Football Academy in West Bengal
Spanish La Liga has reached an agreement with the government of West Bengal to establish a football academy in the state. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed during a meeting between Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and La Liga President Javier Tebas in Madrid. This collaboration aims to nurture young football talents in West Bengal and promote the sport for the betterment of health and prosperity.
Under the agreement, coaches and players from the state will receive training from La Liga coaches, who will also share their expertise to assist local football clubs and make them self-sustainable. The objective is to develop football skills and create a talent pool that can contribute to the growth of the sport in India.
Chief Minister Banerjee, who is currently on a trip to Spain, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership and invited Tebas to West Bengal. She also requested his presence during a friendly match to witness the football fervor that Bengal is known for. Tebas praised the talent pool in Bengal and recognized it as a football factory that has produced some of India’s finest players.

The inclusion of former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and senior officials from renowned Kolkata football clubs Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, and Mohammedan Sporting Club in the meeting highlights the support and excitement surrounding this collaboration.
