Violent Attacks on Tshwane Bus Services and Infrastructure Spark City-Wide Shutdown
Tshwane, South Africa – Recent incidents of organized violence and property destruction have led to the suspension of Tshwane Bus Services and A Re Yeng operations in the city. The safety of commuters and employees prompted this decision, as buses, trucks, and other vehicles fell victim to orchestrated attacks that left a trail of damage in their wake.
In the heart of Pretoria CBD this week, chaos erupted as three trucks from the water and sanitation division, an A Re Yeng bus, a Tshwane bakkie, and a water tanker were subjected to violent assaults. Shockingly, four of these vehicles were torched, and at least one employee suffered serious injuries and required hospitalization.
Acknowledging the severity of the situation, MMC for roads and transport, Katlego Mathebe, emphasized the need to protect the city’s infrastructure from these criminal acts. Mathebe condemned the attacks, stating, It is now clear that the city is no longer dealing with an illegal strike action, we are now dealing with a well-coordinated criminal attack on our infrastructure. I would like to apologize to our commuters for the inconvenience caused.
The suspension of operations aims to safeguard the well-being of both passengers and staff, ensuring that they are out of harm’s way. However, the city remains dedicated to reestablishing the bus services as soon as it is safe to do so. Mathebe emphasized that efforts will be intensified to restore normalcy and provide an efficient transportation system for the people of Tshwane.
While these violent attacks have undoubtedly caused disruptions and inconveniences for commuters, the city’s primary focus is on restoring the safety and security of its infrastructure and citizens. Through collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and city authorities, it is hoped that those responsible for these criminal acts will be swiftly brought to justice.
In the meantime, Tshwane continues to appeal for the understanding and patience of its residents. The city is determined to overcome this setback and ensure the resumption of reliable and secure bus services for the benefit of all. By standing united against violence and criminality, Tshwane can rebuild and emerge stronger than ever.
