Florida Man Fatally Shot by Police After Threatening Girlfriend with Knife
In a recent incident in Florida, law enforcement officers shot and killed a man who allegedly posed a threat to his girlfriend with a knife. The incident took place in Polk County, where officers responded to a 911 call reporting that a woman had been attacked by her boyfriend, Angelo Theodore Curcione, with a knife. By the time the officers arrived at the scene, Curcione had already fled.
A search operation involving K-9 units from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Auburndale Police Department was initiated to locate the suspect. After approximately 10 minutes, one of the K-9 units alerted the officers, and Curcione emerged from the bushes holding a knife in an aggressive manner, shouting, Shoot me! Kill me!
Faced with a direct threat, the officers and deputy responded by shooting and killing Curcione. Sheriff Grady Judd confirmed that Curcione had a violent criminal history, with 45 charges filed against him since 1986. In fact, he had previously served time in a New Jersey prison for attempting to murder a law enforcement official and had recently been released.
Sheriff Judd further stated that Curcione’s actions can be interpreted as a form of suicide by cop. When he approached the officers in an attacking position and repeatedly demanded to be shot, they complied with his request, ultimately leading to his demise.
The incident is currently under investigation by the 10th Judicial Circuit Officer Involved Deadly Incident Task Force.
