The North Eastern states in India have received less rainfall in the pre-monsoon period this year, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati. The center revealed that seven states in the North Eastern region experienced a rainfall deficit in the months of March, April, and May. Sanjay O’Neill Shaw, the Scientist-F of the center, said that Arunachal Pradesh had recorded a minus 40% rainfall compared to the normal level, while Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura recorded minus 38%, 66%, 48%, 47%, 35%, and 60% respectively. During the pre-monsoon period, the normal rainfall in Assam had been recorded at 542.7 mm, but this year, the state received just 337.5 mm, which is a rainfall deficit of 38%. Arunachal Pradesh received 446.9 mm rainfall, Manipur had 122 mm, Meghalaya had 375.1 mm, and Mizoram received 299.5 mm of rainfall during the same pre-monsoon period.
