Trump’s Conversations with House GOP Fuel Impeachment Inquiry against Biden
Former President Donald Trump has reportedly engaged in discussions with House GOP members, fueling an impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden. Trump approached at least one member behind the scenes, including House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik, who later became the first Republican to advocate for the impeachment inquiry. These discussions took place leading up to the House’s announcement of a formal impeachment inquiry against Biden.
The conversations occurred shortly after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy declared that the Republicans would conduct an inquiry into Biden’s family business dealings, potentially leading to his impeachment. During a dinner at his golf club in Bedminster, N.J., Trump was accompanied by Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, an ally of Speaker McCarthy. It was at this dinner that Trump discussed the impeachment of Biden with house members.
Trump has been overtly vocal about his intentions to impeach Biden. On social media last month, he demanded, Either IMPEACH the BUM, or fade into OBLIVION. THEY DID IT TO US. This would not be the first time Trump faced impeachment during his presidency. He was previously impeached twice, once for his pressure campaign involving Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to investigate Biden’s activities in Ukraine and the second time for his role in the January 6th Capitol riot.
Concerns about Biden’s physical and mental health have also been raised by Trump and several Republican members. Texas GOP Representative Ronny Jackson, a former White House physician, expressed alarm, stating that Biden is not fit mentally or physically. Jackson made this claim following an incident where Biden stumbled on stage during a ceremony at the Air Force Academy. Trump noted that Biden’s body is shot, and his mind is worse, suggesting he is unfit to run for office again due to his age.
It remains to be seen how these discussions and concerns about Biden’s impeachment and fitness for office will impact the ongoing political landscape. As the formal impeachment inquiry gains momentum, both support and opposition will likely emerge from various quarters, shaping the future of the Biden presidency.
