Title: ProAction Emergency Medical Services Enhance Safety at El Paso Athletic Events
El Paso athletic events are set to experience enhanced safety measures thanks to the involvement of ProAction Emergency Medical Services. Recent incidents prompted school districts and private medical companies to reassess their emergency protocols, leading to the implementation of proactive measures.
Traditionally, private ambulance or medical services were hired for these events as El Paso Fire serves as the primary emergency response agency for the entire city. ProAction, one of the private companies, offers event medical services, allowing them to provide timely emergency medical assistance directly at the events.
ProAction’s services are available to all school districts in El Paso County, with the level of care being determined based on specific requirements. We are actively providing services for Socorro district. We also cover for Ysleta district. Currently, we are working with Clint district and San Eli district, tailoring our support to their individual needs, stated Paloma Herrera, director of Event Medical Services at ProAction.
In response to the recent incidents, KTSM approached the El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) for comment on their emergency services provision during sporting events. EPISD released a statement highlighting their commitment to ensuring student and staff safety. They assign El Paso ISD Police Services officers to district events and notify the Office of Emergency Management when mass gatherings are scheduled. Despite the University Interscholastic League not mandating the presence of emergency first responders at games, EPISD Police officers adhere to district and state protocols, summoning appropriate agencies during emergency situations. Every high school also has dedicated staff, including certified trainers required to attend athletic events, further bolstering safety measures.
Furthermore, Fabens Independent School District (Fabens ISD) discussed their safety measures with KTSM. Under the UIL’s Coaches Certification Program, their coaching staff is certified, and they employ an athletic trainer who attends all sporting events. This ensures that immediate medical personnel are available to respond swiftly to any emergencies, whether they involve athletes or spectators.
Sofia Maciel, spokesperson for Fabens ISD, emphasized the importance of having medical professionals on standby, as emergencies can occur unpredictably. She shared an incident where a staff member fell and was immediately supported by on-hand medical personnel, highlighting the need to cater to anyone who requires assistance, including members of the public, staff, and students.
The collaboration between school districts and ProAction Emergency Medical Services reflects a shared commitment to maintaining the safety and well-being of participants in El Paso athletic events. These measures will undoubtedly provide reassurance to athletes, spectators, and event organizers, promoting a safe and secure environment for all.
