The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sealed the Bahanaga Bazar railway station in Odisha and seized the log book, relay panel, and equipment as part of its investigation into the triple train crash which killed 288 people on June 2. No trains will stop at the station until further notice. Though restoration work for both up and down lines has been completed, speed limitations are in place near the accident site. The CBI has taken over all case files from the Government Railway Police, started investigating allegations of criminal negligence, and registered an FIR in connection with the accident. Bodies were disfigured beyond recognition, some reportedly without visible injury marks due to electrocution. The Balasore tragedy is one of India’s worst train crashes in almost three decades. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused the BJP-ruled Centre of attempts to suppress the cause of the accident. Congress has demanded an FIR against Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and PM Modi for negligence. Survivors shared horrific experiences, with one individual saying it is like a second life has been granted to them.
