Kathleen’s mother, Tavia Driscoll, expressed her shock at the news, having already lost another daughter to drug addiction in 2015.
The similarities between the cases have raised concerns that these deaths may be the result of a serial killer at large. Just three blocks away from where Kathleen’s body was found, the nude body of Deanna Prendergast was discovered in the back yard of a vacant duplex on Hudson Avenue. The condition of Deanna’s body and the circumstances of her discovery have led her family to believe that she was murdered. The Montgomery County Coroner reported signs of strangulation, although the decomposition made it difficult to determine the exact cause of death.
Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl has stated that all five deaths are currently under investigation by his team. While drugs were found in the bodies of all the victims and they had extensive records of arrests and convictions, Chief Biehl has not yet determined if the deaths are connected.
Both Kathleen Driscoll and Deanna Prendergast had a history of drug addiction that started in their teenage years. Tavia Driscoll, Kathleen’s mother, said that she made multiple attempts to help her daughters, including seeking counseling and having her youngest daughter placed in juvenile detention.
