Senator Warren Calls for Investigation into SpaceX’s Blocking of Ukraine’s Satellite Network

Musk, who is expected to attend a closed-door summit with senators on Wednesday, initially revealed his decision to block Ukraine’s request on his social media platform, X. He stated that complying with the emergency request to extend Starlink coverage to Sevastopol in order to sink Russian warships would have amounted to SpaceX’s complicity in an act of war. Musk later emphasized his loyalty to the United States, asserting that he would fight for his country. However, at the time of the incident, SpaceX had no defense contracts for the use of Starlink in Ukraine, although the Defense Department has since started providing undisclosed financial support for the network’s usage in the region.
Warren’s call for an investigation comes amidst growing concerns over the control and potential misuse of satellite networks by private entities, especially in situations involving international conflicts. The Defense Department has yet to respond to requests for comment on the matter.
