FUFA and betPawa: A Game-Changing Investment in Ugandan Football
The Uganda Football Federation (FUFA) and betting firm betPawa have joined forces in a groundbreaking partnership aimed at revolutionizing Ugandan football. With a significant investment of Ushs 1.18 billion (approximately $320,000), this collaboration demonstrates a shared commitment to fostering local talent, enhancing the fan experience, and raising the standards of football across Uganda.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Ntoudi Mouyelo, Managing Director at Mchezo Africa, which owns betPawa, stated, We are thrilled to collaborate with FUFA in accelerating the growth of Ugandan football. This partnership represents a substantial investment in our local players and teams, and together, we can elevate the experience for both fans and players. We are creating more opportunities for everyone involved in Ugandan football.
The official signing ceremony of this transformative partnership will also serve as the launch for three sponsored properties during the FUFA 23/24 season: FUFA Drum, the betPawa BIG League, and the betPawa Futsal League.
FUFA President Moses Hassim Magogo echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the significance of this partnership for Ugandan football. He stated, This collaboration marks a pivotal moment for Ugandan football. It goes beyond financial support; it is a resolute commitment to the future of our beloved sport, a promise to intensify our shared vision for progress.
The overarching objectives of this partnership are wide-ranging. They include nurturing and developing more careers within Ugandan football, energizing and strengthening existing fan bases while expanding their reach nationwide, and motivating players through the innovative Locker Room Bonus.
As part of this partnership, we are introducing the Locker Room Bonus, which provides players with immediate and direct benefits. If their team wins, the players who make the squad list for each match will receive cash tokens sent directly to their phones after the game. We have allocated 25% of the partnership’s value to this Locker Room Bonus, explained Mouyelo.

Under the futsal competition, participants can look forward to awards for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the season, best goalkeeper, coach, player of the season, most assists, and young player of the season. Similar award categories, supported by betPawa, will be presented in the Big League, along with an overall token for the league’s winning team. This is especially significant as the top four clubs from the Big League earn promotion to Uganda’s premier league at the end of each season.
