In a thrilling MVC game at Swanson Field on Friday, the Logan High School football team showcased a dominant performance, forcing turnovers and securing a 27-12 victory over Reedsburg. This win marked another step forward for Logan, following their convincing victory over Sparta last week.
The Rangers put on an impressive defensive display, recording three interceptions and recovering three fumbles throughout the game. These turnovers proved to be killers for Reedsburg, as Logan capitalized on their mistakes to gain a significant advantage. Coach Casey Knoble acknowledged the importance of these big plays, stating, We knew what their game plan was, and they were tough to stop. We wanted to force them to make mistakes, and they made a few.
Senior Johnny Leaver had a standout performance for Logan, rushing for two touchdowns, passing for another, and intercepting two passes. He showcased his versatility and athleticism, carrying the ball 18 times for 94 yards and scoring on runs of 10 and 3 yards in the second half. In the first half, Leaver connected with Nick Joley on a 14-yard touchdown pass. Additionally, junior Bradley Check made significant contributions, carrying the ball 19 times for a team-high 129 yards and scoring on a 5-yard run that extended the Rangers’ lead to 21-6 in the third quarter.
Despite Reedsburg’s efforts to stay in the game, they couldn’t overcome their turnovers and the dominant performance by Logan’s defense. Hunter Abbott managed to score a touchdown for the Beavers just before halftime, bringing the score to 8-6. The Beavers attempted to tie the game, but their run was stopped. In the third quarter, they mounted another touchdown drive, with Abbott throwing a 24-yard touchdown pass to Ethan Horkan, bringing them within nine points at 21-12. However, their two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful as Joley tipped an Abbott pass in the end zone.
Ultimately, Logan’s ability to force turnovers and capitalize on Reedsburg’s mistakes proved to be the deciding factor in their victory. The Rangers now have a 2-2 record in conference play and will face a tough showdown against Onalaska next week. With two consecutive comfortable victories over conference opponents, Logan should feel confident heading into this crucial matchup.
The Logan High School football team’s strong defensive performance, highlighted by their ability to force turnovers, has propelled them to success in recent games. Senior Johnny Leaver’s impressive performance on both ends of the field has played a significant role in their victories. As they continue their conference play, the Rangers will look to build upon their recent success and maintain their momentum.
