Former NFL Wide Receiver Mike Williams Hospitalized After Construction Accident

Former wide receiver Mike Williams, known for his successful career in the NFL, is currently on life support in a Tampa hospital following a construction accident that occurred last week. Contrary to earlier reports, Williams is alive and receiving treatment in the ICU.

The mother of Williams’ daughter, Tierney Lyle, shared with the Tampa Bay Times that she and their child recently visited him in the hospital. Lyle described his condition as mostly non-responsive, stating, He was asleep when we went in there, and he woke up when he heard our voices and his daughter’s voice. And he looked around, and he blinked, and he was crying but he can’t move.

Lyle expressed her belief that the eventual plan would be to remove Williams from life support. The severity of his injuries has not been fully disclosed, but a GoFundMe page, allegedly set up by Williams’ father, stated that a steel beam fell on his head during the construction accident. As a result, Williams has suffered paralysis in his right arm and from the waist down.

Mike Williams, a 36-year-old native of Buffalo who played college football at Syracuse University, made his mark in the NFL when he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2010. During his rookie season, he set a single-season record for the team by catching 65 passes for 964 yards and 11 touchdowns. His remarkable performance earned him second place in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting.

Over the course of his career, Williams amassed a total of 223 catches for 3,089 yards and 26 touchdowns in 63 games, with 52 starts for both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Buffalo Bills.

The entire football community is deeply saddened by the news of Mike Williams’ hospitalization. Fans, teammates, and fellow athletes have taken to social media to express their support and wishes for his recovery. Only time will tell how Williams progresses in his rehabilitation journey from this unfortunate accident.
