Police Inspector-General Initiates Panel to Investigate Cadet’s Mysterious Death
The acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun, has established a seven-member panel to probe the circumstances surrounding the death of Sulaiman Jika, a police cadet at the department of computer science. Jika tragically passed away at the police academy in Wudil, Kano state.
Initially, the police attributed the cadet’s demise to a brief and unexpected illness. However, Jika’s colleagues raised concerns, alleging that he had been continuously starved and malnourished for over two weeks while at the academy.
Responding to the seriousness of the allegations, Egbetokun has mandated the panel to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into Jika’s death. The panel, headed by Abiodun Alabi, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the force criminal investigation department, will deliver its findings and recommendations within four days.
In addition to Alabi, the panel consists of other notable members, including Oyeyemi Oyediran, Assistant Inspector-General of Police for training and development, and Garba Nzukwen, a force medical officer. Also part of the panel are Fom-Pam Joseph, CP Homicide FCID; Patrick Edung, CP training POLAC; Idris Abubakar, the principal staff officer II to the IG, and a representative of the CP Legal.
