Revenue officers at Dublin Airport have successfully seized suspected drugs worth over €1.3 million following two separate operations. In a significant blow to illegal drug trafficking, officers discovered 37 kg of herbal cannabis and 10 kg of suspected ketamine during intelligence-led operations at the airport. The estimated value of the seized drugs stands at €740,000 and €600,000 respectively.
The diligent work of Revenue officers led to the discovery of the illicit drugs when they conducted searches on the baggage of passengers disembarking flights from New York and Amsterdam. As a result of these operations, two women in their 20s were promptly arrested by the gardaí, who are continuing their investigations.
In a separate operation on the same day, Revenue officers conducted a search of three premises in Dublin’s inner city. Assisted by detector dog Toby, they managed to seize more than 56,000 cigarettes and 1.4 kg of tobacco. These seized tobacco products, with various brands, have a retail value of €45,000, representing a potential loss of approximately €35,000 to the Exchequer.
An individual in his 50s was questioned in connection with the seized cigarettes and tobacco, and investigations are currently ongoing.
