Suspected Cable Vandal Arrested in Delta State, Nigeria

A 23-year-old man has been apprehended in Delta State, Nigeria, for allegedly vandalizing cables worth millions of naira. Michael Danjuma, a native of Lantang in Plateau State, was arrested by operatives of the Safe Delta Squad of the State Police command. The arrest followed a complaint from a distress caller who noticed the suspect in the act of damaging cables in the area.

Bright Edafe, the spokesperson for the Delta Police Command, confirmed the incident and stated that upon investigation, it was discovered that the suspect specializes in cable vandalism. During a search of his residence, the police recovered several items including a Beretta pistol, a magazine, vandalized cables, two Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards, and a pair of steel scissors.

The suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court after a thorough investigation has been conducted, according to Edafe. Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Wale Abass, has promised to apprehend and prosecute any individuals involved in illegal activities. He also urged the public to remain vigilant during the ember months, a period characterized by an increase in criminal activities.

In a separate incident, three suspects were arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for the unlawful possession of communication cables. The suspects, Peter Kile, Akanuge Sammel, and Justin Tundu, were caught by the NSCDC FCT Command Patrol team. They were found in possession of fiber cables that were identified as government property. The suspects will face prosecution after a thorough investigation has been conducted.

Expressing concern over the high level of vandalism and destruction of infrastructure in the FCT, the Commandant of the NSCDC FCT, Olusola Odumosu, pledged to intensify efforts to combat these crimes and restore peace and security to the capital territory. He emphasized the cooperation between different security agencies in the FCT in tackling criminal activities and safeguarding the region.

The arrests of these suspected cable vandals highlight the ongoing challenges faced by Nigeria regarding infrastructure protection. The government and law enforcement agencies continue to work diligently to suppress such criminal activities, ensuring the safety and security of the public.
