Detroit Tigers Extend Winning Streak with Victory Over Chicago White Sox

On Saturday, the Detroit Tigers secured their second consecutive win as they defeated the struggling Chicago White Sox. Pitcher Rodriguez delivered a solid performance, bouncing back from his previous loss to Houston last week. With this win, Detroit has broken their five-game losing streak.

Rodriguez showcased his prowess on the mound by pitching 6 2/3 innings, allowing only one run and six hits. The left-hander recorded seven strikeouts and two walks, improving his record to 4-0 in 10 starts against the Chicago White Sox.

The White Sox, playing their first game since the new general manager appointment, fell short against the Tigers. Chris Getz took over the position following the firing of former general manager Rick Hahn and executive vice president Ken Williams.

Beau Brieske, Detroit’s pitcher, retired pinch hitter Yasmani Grandal in the seventh inning, preventing the White Sox from scoring. However, in the eighth inning, Luis Robert Jr. managed to drive a sacrifice fly, bringing the score to 4-2.

In the closing moments of the game, relievers Will Vest and Alex Lange sealed the victory for the Tigers. Vest made an appearance in the eighth inning and secured the two crucial outs, while Lange closed the game in the ninth inning, earning his 20th save this season.

The Tigers took the lead in the fifth inning when Riley Greene hit a two-run single, scoring two runs and putting Detroit ahead 2-1. They extended their lead in the sixth inning, adding another run while chasing White Sox starter Touki Toussaint out of the game.

Toussaint pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs and five hits. He managed to escape a bases-loaded jam in the first inning and retired 11 consecutive batters before giving up hits to Parker Meadows and Jake Rogers in the fifth inning. Both runners scored on Greene’s single, giving the Tigers the lead.

Detroit further capitalized on their momentum in the sixth inning. With runners on first and third base, Sammy Peralta retired Meadows but made a wild throw to the infield, allowing Spencer Torkelson to score, extending the Tigers’ lead to 3-1. However, Miguel Cabrera was thrown out at home by left fielder Andrew Benintendi while attempting to score on a single by Zack Short.

In other news, the White Sox made some player transactions. They recalled infielder José Rodríguez from Double-A Birmingham and pitcher Luis Patiño from Triple-A Charlotte. Rodríguez, a top prospect, has impressive statistics with Birmingham, including a .264 batting average, 18 home runs, 54 RBIs, and 28 stolen bases in 87 games played.

Looking ahead, the series between the White Sox and Tigers will continue with the White Sox starting pitcher Mike Clevinger (6-6, 3.32 ERA) and the Tigers countering with Reese Olson (2-6, 5.10 ERA). Clevinger has been performing well since returning from injury, boasting a 2.31 ERA in his last six starts.

Overall, this victory boosts the Tigers’ morale as they aim to continue their winning streak and work their way up the standings. The White Sox, on the other hand, will need to regroup and find ways to overcome their recent struggles.
