A 22-year-old man has been arrested by Goa police for allegedly stabbing and dumping the body of his estranged girlfriend in a neighboring state of Maharashtra. The incident occurred just a day after the victim filed a police complaint against him.
The suspect, identified as Prakash Chunchwad, has confessed to killing his estranged girlfriend, Kamakshi Naik, at her residence in Porvorim near Panaji on Thursday, according to a senior police official. The victim had previously lodged a complaint against Chunchwad at the Mapusa police station following a quarrel.
The police managed to recover Naik’s body from Amboli ghat in Maharashtra, approximately 80 kilometers away from the crime scene. They have also seized the car that was used to transport the body.
Preliminary investigation suggests that Chunchwad had an argument with Naik in Mapusa town on Wednesday, after which she filed a police complaint. Subsequently, a non-cognizable offense was registered against the accused. The police warned Chunchwad not to interfere with the victim and allowed him to leave.
However, the accused disregarded the warning and went to the victim’s flat the following day. During a heated argument, he allegedly stabbed her to death. He then transported the body to Amboli ghat and disposed of it there.
The tragic incident came to light when a family member of the victim visited her house and discovered blood stains. A complaint was immediately lodged at the Porvorim police station.
This harrowing incident emphasizes the importance of taking domestic disputes seriously and ensuring the safety of individuals involved. It raises questions about the adequacy of the warning issued to the accused, considering the subsequent attack and the loss of an innocent life.
The authorities must thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding this case and take necessary measures to prevent such tragedies in the future. It is crucial to address the issue of domestic violence and work towards creating a safer society for everyone.
The accused, Prakash Chunchwad, will now face legal proceedings for his alleged crime, and further details will emerge as the investigation progresses. The incident serves as a reminder that unresolved conflicts and strained relationships can have devastating consequences.
