A 21-year-old woman has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man whose body was discovered off the Sliabh Liag cliffs in County Donegal. The body of Robert Wilkin, in his 60s, was found floating in the waters on July 3rd following a week-long search carried out by various State agencies, including the Gardaí and the Irish Coastguard. In a special hearing at Letterkenny District Court, Nikita Burns was formally charged with Mr. Wilkin’s murder. This is the second person to be charged in connection with his death.

During the court proceeding, Ms. Burns, wearing white trousers and a black top, denied the allegations, saying: I didn’t do it. Detective Sergeant Matthie Murphy of Ballyshannon Garda Station provided evidence of her arrest, charge, and caution. Garda Superintendent Karen Duffy requested that the accused be remanded in custody until September 4th, when she is due to appear at Letterkenny District Court via videolink. Mr. Rory O’Brien, the solicitor for the accused, requested legal aid, which was granted. He also asked for Ms. Burns to receive any necessary medical treatment, including psychiatric care, while in custody.

The case has been adjourned until September 3rd to allow for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions to be sought. The court proceedings shed light on the ongoing investigation into the tragic death of Mr. Wilkin. However, further details surrounding the case have not been disclosed.

The incident has shocked the local community and raised questions about the safety of the popular Sliabh Liag cliffs. The cliffs, known for their stunning beauty and breathtaking views, attract many visitors each year. Local authorities will likely face scrutiny regarding safety measures and the need for increased awareness and precautions when visiting the area. As the case continues to unfold, investigators will work diligently to uncover the truth surrounding Mr. Wilkin’s death, providing closure for his loved ones and ensuring justice is served.
