CCTV footage of a mischievous golden retriever named Olive has captured the hearts of viewers, as she went wild and damaged a sofa while her owner was away. The video, shared on TikTok by Olive’s owner with the username @meganjoyy12, has garnered over 196,000 views and received more than 20,000 likes since it was posted on August 17. In the clip, Olive can be seen gleefully jumping and running around the living room, leading to the revocation of her free roaming privileges.

But Olive’s owner, Joy from Salt Lake City, isn’t alone in discovering pet misbehavior through home cameras. A nationwide survey conducted by Wakefield Research on behalf of Comcast revealed that 30 percent of 1,000 pet owners had caught their dogs damaging furniture through surveillance cameras, while 39 percent had witnessed their dogs lounging on the sofa when they were not supposed to.

The survey further highlighted that a staggering 84 percent of pet owners use cameras to ensure their furry companions are well-behaved. In fact, over half of the participants admitted to using pet cameras as a source of comfort during long workdays. It seems these devices are not only for security purposes but also serve as a way for owners to keep an eye on their beloved pets.

For Joy, witnessing Olive’s destructive behavior was undoubtedly a lengthy ordeal. She recently shared another clip showcasing the aftermath of the shredded sofa. However, it’s important to note that Olive’s mischievous actions managed to put a smile on the faces of thousands of viewers.

Commenting on the footage of Olive’s antics, Joy stated that the golden retriever was having the time of her freaking life. Other dog owners empathized with the situation, expressing their own struggles with pet misbehavior and the need to revoke roaming privileges.

According to experts from the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals — Angell Animal Medical Center, dogs tend to engage in destructive behavior when they have excess energy or experience anxiety. Chewing, excessive licking, or house-soiling may be signs of separation anxiety, fear, or boredom. The humane society advises against punishment and suggests seeking assistance from certified animal behaviorists to address these issues.

While Olive’s sofa-shredding incident serves as a cautionary tale, it also reminds us of the joy and entertainment that our furry friends bring into our lives. Whether it be through mischievous zoomies or heartwarming companionship, pets like Olive continue to capture our hearts and make us appreciate the rollercoaster of emotions they bring.
