Football Australia Concludes RFP Phase for National Second Tier Application Process

Football Australia recently announced the successful completion of phase two of the National Second Tier (NST) Application Process, known as the Request for Proposal (RFP) phase. The RFP phase played a crucial role in establishing a solid foundation for the forthcoming NST, with submissions being received by the deadline on August 28, 2023.

Football Australia, however, will not disclose the identities of the clubs that made submissions or comment on the compliance or completeness of their proposals at this time due to the confidential nature of the process. The organization acknowledged the passion and commitment of the football community in their response to the initiative.

The Assessment and Review Phase has commenced following the conclusion of the RFP process. Each submitted proposal will undergo a comprehensive evaluation to ensure its alignment with the set criteria and requirements. An independent third party, globally recognized accounting and advisory experts BDO, has been appointed by Football Australia to provide assistance and ensure transparency and accuracy throughout the process.

James Johnson, CEO of Football Australia, expressed the organization’s dedication to establishing a holistic and competitive National Second Tier. The goal is to launch the NST in 2024 with a minimum of 10 teams competing in a home and away league structure with finals. However, Football Australia is also considering a phased group-based model influenced by the National Premier Leagues, similar to the Champions League format.

Johnson emphasized their commitment to the future of Australian football, regardless of the chosen structure. The focus remains on elevating the stature of football in Australia. The organization aims to provide value and ensure the integrity and fairness of the selection process, collaborating with BDO to achieve these goals.

Football Australia’s vision is to create a competitive and dynamic second-tier competition that will enhance the overall development of football in the country. The completion of the RFP phase brings them closer to this objective, with the Assessment and Review Phase underway, ultimately leading to the final selection of teams for the NST.

As the process progresses, Football Australia will continue to provide updates on the next stages of the National Second Tier Application Process, keeping stakeholders and football enthusiasts informed.
