Sex Attacker Terrorizes Victim from Behind Bars, Sending Threatening Letters
A shocking case of ongoing terror has emerged from behind the bars of HMP Barlinnie in Glasgow. Ryan Main, a 32-year-old man who was remanded in custody for assaulting and raping a woman, continued to torment his victim through a series of threatening letters for more than a year.
In these disturbing letters, Main made it clear that he expected the woman not to testify against him. He claimed to have people who would do his bidding and vowed to make her life a living nightmare before burning her out of her home.
Main stood trial at the High Court in Glasgow where he denied attacking the woman and dismissed the letters as the actions of a pure idiot. However, the evidence against him was overwhelming, and he was found guilty of assaulting and raping his victim, as well as attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Moreover, it was revealed during the trial that Main had also committed similar crimes against another woman earlier, even using coercive language to force her into having sex. His actions were deeply disturbing and violated the trust and dignity of his victims.
Throughout the trial, Main showed no remorse and arrogantly dismissed the physical and sexual violence he had inflicted on the women. He even recorded intimate footage of the victim without her consent or when she was asleep, claiming that she either consented or that he believed she was awake. However, his attempts to downplay his actions were futile.
Even while behind bars, Main continued to harass and threaten the woman. He warned her not to say anything that would lead to a longer sentence for him, threatening her with violence and public humiliation. These frightening letters persisted even after a new tenant had moved into the victim’s residence, indicating the extent of Main’s obsession and disregard for the law.
After relentlessly pursuing and terrorizing his victim, Main was finally apprehended by the police in March 2021 when he again assaulted and raped her. As a result, he was remanded in custody, and his sentencing is scheduled for next month.
The impact of Main’s actions on the lives of his victims cannot be underestimated. Their sense of safety and well-being has been shattered, and the trauma they have endured will likely leave lasting scars. It is crucial that they receive the support and justice they deserve.
This case serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing sexual violence and providing necessary protection for survivors. The justice system must take a firm stance against perpetrators to ensure that victims are not re-victimized and that society as a whole can feel secure.
As we await Main’s sentencing, it is hoped that the court will hand down a punishment that reflects the seriousness of his crimes and sends a clear message that such despicable acts will not be tolerated. Above all, the survivors must be empowered to rebuild their lives and find healing in the aftermath of this harrowing ordeal.
