An Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) officer, Shekhar Bagade, has denied allegations that he planted RDX at the residence of Sudhakar Chaturvedi, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast trial. Appearing before a special court, Bagade dismissed the claims as an attempt to defame him, stating that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had no evidence beyond statements made by a subedar and his superior. Bagade, who worked on the blast case before it was taken over by the NIA, has been accused of breaking into Chaturvedi’s home and leaving traces of RDX in 2008, which the ATS later found in a raid. While the NIA has ruled out prosecuting Pragya Thakur and five others for lack of evidence, Thakur continues to face trial after a discharge plea was denied. Purohit, then a Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army, and others were named as conspirators in the attack.
