A potential disaster was averted after the brake pads of the AC coach of Puri-Durg Express caught fire near Khariar Road in Nuapada district in Odisha, India. No casualties were reported, according to the railway official. The East Coast Railway issued a statement saying that smoke was detected in the B3 coach of the train as it arrived at the Khariar Road station on Thursday evening due to certain glitches in the brake shoe. The officials said that the brake pads caught fire due to friction and incomplete release of brakes. However, there was no damage reported, and the train departed at 11:00 pm on Thursday without any further incident. The incident highlights the importance of regular maintenance and safety checks for all trains.
