Police Monitoring Influencers and Celebrities Promoting Online Gambling

The National Police in Indonesia is cracking down on influencers and celebrities who promote online gambling on their social media accounts. The Director for Cyber Crime, Brigadier General Adi Vivid Agustiadi Bachtiar, announced that the police are actively monitoring these individuals and have already taken legal action against some of them.

According to Adi Vivid, several regions have disclosed cases of influencers actively promoting gambling. He emphasized that those who have been proven to be involved in such promotion will be dealt with according to the law. The prevailing regulations, known as the ITE Law Article 45 paragraph 2 Jo. Article 27 paragraph 2, carry a penalty of six years imprisonment and a fine of Rp1 billion.

Adi Vivid urged influencers to stop promoting online gambling and reminded them that there are many other subjects that they can promote without violating any laws. The National Police’s Directorate General of Criminal Investigation Unit will take stern action against any influencers who continue to promote online gambling. Adi Vivid has instructed the Cyber Police officers to enforce the regulations accordingly.

The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) also revealed that the circulation of money through online gambling transactions has been increasing over the years. In 2022 alone, the figure reached Rp81 trillion. This highlights the growing concern over the negative impact of online gambling and the need for stricter measures to combat its promotion.

While there may be different perspectives on online gambling and its promotion, it is evident that the Indonesian police are determined to address the issue. The crackdown on influencers and celebrities involved in promoting online gambling serves as a warning to others and aims to protect individuals from the potential harms of gambling addiction.

In conclusion, the National Police of Indonesia is actively monitoring influencers and celebrities who promote online gambling on social media. Legal action has been taken against some individuals, and harsh penalties are in place for those found guilty. The police urge influencers to stop promoting online gambling and emphasize the availability of other lawful subjects to promote. The fight against online gambling raises concerns about its increasing money circulation and necessitates stricter measures. The actions taken by the police aim to safeguard individuals from the potential harms associated with gambling addiction.
