Bangkok Purse-Snatching Crime: Notorious Criminal Couple Arrested

Authorities in Bangkok have successfully apprehended a notorious criminal couple who were responsible for over 100 purse-snatching crimes across the city. The Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) received reports of a criminal gang operating in shopping malls and populated areas of Bangkok, targeting unsuspecting victims and making quick getaways with stolen handbags. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the MPB detectives and Detective 111, the couple was swiftly located and apprehended.

The arrested suspects, identified as Buoy Yangha and Mary Jean, both Cambodian nationals, were charged with illegally entering and staying in Thailand. The MPB Commander, Police Lieutenant Wichit Thirakhajonwong, personally oversaw the arrest and subsequent legal proceedings. More than 36 items of evidence, including stolen mobile phones and clothing used during the crimes, were seized from the couple’s residence in Samut Prakan Province.

Investigations revealed that Buoy and Mary were frequently seen leaving their residence, seemingly preparing for their criminal activities. The police wasted no time and promptly arrested the purse-snatching duo, who ultimately confessed to their crimes. In their confession, the couple revealed their modus operandi and shed light on their backstory.

Buoy and Mary disclosed that after privately crossing the border into Thailand in early 2022, they hatched a plan to snatch bags as a means of survival, without any legitimate employment. They honed their skills before embarking on their purse-snatching spree, primarily targeting shopping malls and areas frequented by tourists and commuters. The stolen goods were then sold to sustain their daily lives. They admitted to committing these crimes over 100 times.

Following the arrest, the suspects were taken to Samrong Nuea Police Station for further investigation. Sub-Lieutenant Theeradej Thamsuthee, MPB Commander, took the opportunity to caution potential criminals, emphasizing the importance of respecting the laws of foreign countries.

While acknowledging that travel between neighboring countries has become easier, supporting economic development, Sub-Lieutenant Theeradej issued a stern warning to those intending to cause trouble in Thailand. He declared that the police would pursue and apprehend individuals engaging in criminal activities, regardless of their location within or outside Bangkok.

The successful arrest and charging of Buoy and Mary bring relief to the residents of Bangkok who have been plagued by their purse-snatching crimes. The MPB’s proactive approach and determination to tackle criminal activities ensure the safety and well-being of citizens and visitors alike.

The case serves as a reminder for all potential offenders to adhere to the laws of the countries they enter and respect the rights of others. Furthermore, it highlights the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies in maintaining order and bringing criminals to justice.
