Sri Lanka’s Resilience and Innovation Shine at COMPLAST 2023: Paving the Way for Global Manufacturing Success
Sri Lanka has emerged as a beacon of resilience and innovation in the face of unprecedented challenges, according to Dr. Satyanjal Pandey, the Deputy High Commissioner of India in Sri Lanka. Speaking as the guest of honour at the opening ceremony of COMPLAST 2023, the Complete Plastics Exhibition, Dr. Pandey praised Sri Lanka’s ability to rise confidently from the twin tragedies of the Covid-19 pandemic and the economic crisis.
Over 200 companies participated in the event, which took place at the BMICH in Sri Lanka. The exhibition showcased innovative products and solutions from companies representing India, China, and Sri Lanka. Dr. Pandey highlighted the resilience and successful business model adopted by Sri Lankan companies, emphasizing that Indian businesses can learn from their Sri Lankan counterparts.
During his tenure as Deputy High Commissioner of India, Dr. Pandey witnessed numerous international events in Sri Lanka and delegations visiting both countries, indicating the strengthening ties between the two nations. He encouraged the local business sector to explore more opportunities with India, citing India’s vast market potential. In addition, he referred to President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s visit to India as a significant milestone that will further enhance bilateral trade.
Minister of Industries and Plantation Industries, Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, acknowledged the resilience of Sri Lanka’s export sector, which achieved a commendable USD 13.1 billion in income despite facing a dual crisis. He specifically commended the rubber and polymer sector for its crucial role in this achievement. Dr. Pathirana praised Sri Lanka’s successful manufacturing of rubber components for the global market and its entry into the aerospace industry, manufacturing rubber-based items.
The collaboration among the Plastics and Rubber Institute of Sri Lanka (PRISL), Smart Expos, and the Industrial Development Board resulted in the successful organization of COMPLAST 2023. This partnership reflects the collective efforts of these organizations to invigorate Sri Lanka’s industrial growth and strengthen its global manufacturing presence.
COMPLAST 2023 featured four events: RUBEXPO 2023 (The International Rubber Expo), COMEXPO 2023 (The Complete Manufacturing Expo), TOFAS 2023 (The inaugural Tools and Fasteners Expo), and MOPEEXPO 2023 (The Motor Parts Expo). These events showcased cutting-edge technologies, solutions, and crucial components of the manufacturing landscape, such as hardware, tools, fasteners, spare parts, tyres, batteries, and garage equipment.
