Indian PM Modi Receives Grand Cross in Greece, Strengthening India-Greece Partnership

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been honored with the Grand Cross of the Order of Honour during his official visit to Greece. The prestigious award was presented by President of Greece Katerina N. Sakellaropoulou, symbolizing the deepening partnership between India and Greece.

The Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi, tweeted, A special honor reflecting the strength of India-Greece partnership. PM @narendramodi conferred with Grand Cross of the Order of Honour by @PresidencyGR Katerina N. Sakellaropoulou.

During the visit, PM Modi held delegation-level discussions with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The Order of Honour, founded in 1975, is bestowed upon individuals who have contributed significantly to enhancing Greece’s stature in the world.

The citation for PM Modi emphasized his tireless efforts in promoting India’s global reach, advancing its economic progress through bold reforms, and prioritizing environmental protection and climate change. It also acknowledged his significant role in strengthening the friendship between Greece and India in areas of mutual interest.

PM Modi expressed his pleasure in meeting President Katerina Sakellaropoulou in Athens and discussed various matters that would further strengthen the India-Greece friendship. They also explored ways to enhance sustainable development. President Sakellaropoulou congratulated India on the successful Chandrayaan-3 moon mission.

The success of Chandrayaan-3 is not only India’s, but a triumph for all of humankind. The data collected by the mission will benefit the scientific community and humanity at large, PM Modi stated.

To mark the start of his trip, PM Modi paid respects at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Athens and received a ceremonial guard of honor. This visit holds significance as he is the first Indian leader to travel to Greece in the last four decades.

India and Greece share deep civilizational ties, which have been further strengthened in recent years through collaboration in various fields, including maritime transport, defense, trade, investment, and interpersonal relations.

Overall, PM Modi’s visit to Greece has not only reinforced the India-Greece partnership but also highlighted the shared commitment to progress, development, and global cooperation. This recognition with the Grand Cross serves as a testament to the growing bilateral ties between the two nations.
