Jamaica Tallawahs showcased a dominant performance as they defeated the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots with ease in a crucial clash of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023. The Tallawahs continued their unbeaten start to the season and handed the Patriots their first loss.
The Patriots were put into bat but failed to build any momentum in their innings. Despite a quick start by Andre Fletcher, who took on Chris Green in the early overs, the Patriots lost wickets regularly. Salman Irshad was the chief destroyer, dismissing Fletcher, Corbin Bosch, and Ambati Rayudu in quick succession. Joshua de Silva tried to revive the innings with a patient knock of 36, but it was Mohammad Amir’s late strikes that restricted the Patriots to a modest total of 156 for 9.
In response, the Tallawahs came out all guns blazing. Brandon King led the charge with a scintillating innings, scoring 67 runs off just 33 balls. He took on Sheldon Cottrell, smashing three boundaries in each of the first two overs. Although Kirk McKenzie fell early, King and Shamarh Brooks formed a solid partnership of 69 runs for the second wicket, effectively ending any hopes of a Patriots fightback. King was eventually dismissed by Dominic Drakes, but Brooks ensured victory with a couple of big hits, guiding the Tallawahs to an eight-wicket win with 21 balls to spare.
With this win, the Jamaica Tallawahs maintain their unbeaten record in the CPL 2023 and remain in a strong position in the tournament. On the other hand, the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots will look to bounce back from their first defeat and regroup for their upcoming matches.
