St. Marys Dominates Doddridge County with 3 Interceptions for a 34-14 Victory
In an impressive display of skill and determination, St. Marys asserted their dominance over Doddridge County with a resounding 34-14 victory. Led by senior Josiah DeMoss, who had an outstanding performance with three interceptions, the Class A No. 9 Blue Devils were able to secure a road win against the No. 5 Bulldogs.
DeMoss had no personal goals in mind when he entered Wednesday’s SSAC Kickoff Game. Instead, his focus was on contributing to his team’s success and leading them to victory. Little did he know that he would play a pivotal role in the outcome of the game.
With the score tied at 6 late in the first half, DeMoss intercepted a pass from Doddridge’s quarterback Brysen Dixon, returning it 75 yards for a touchdown. This interception not only shifted the momentum in St. Marys’ favor but also gave them a six-point lead going into halftime.
Doddridge County had initially taken the lead with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Dixon to Jerod Trent. However, St. Marys quickly responded with a 49-yard run from Ashton Boron, setting up Logan Eddy’s 17-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 6.
After DeMoss’ pick-six, the Blue Devils capitalized on their momentum and scored two more touchdowns in the second half. Ryan Kent threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Boron, followed by a successful two-point conversion, giving St. Marys a comfortable 20-6 lead.
However, the Bulldogs fought back, with Dixon connecting with Landon Thomas for a two-point conversion and narrowing the gap to 20-14. But the Blue Devils stood strong, with Kent breaking free for a 24-yard touchdown run and extending their lead to 26-14.
DeMoss continued to make a significant impact on the game, intercepting two more passes from Dixon and sealing the win for St. Marys. The final interception positioned the Blue Devils at the Bulldogs’ 9-yard line, allowing Boron to rush for another touchdown, bringing the score to 34-14.
St. Marys’ relentless defense limited Doddridge County to 199 total yards, with only 97 yards gained on the ground. The Blue Devils’ offensive line also excelled, leading to a remarkable 232-yard rushing attack, with Boron leading the way with 148 yards on the ground.
This victory marks St. Marys’ 11th consecutive win against Doddridge County and leaves the Bulldogs with a losing record for the first time since 2017. Despite their efforts, the Bulldogs missed crucial opportunities and made key mistakes that allowed St. Marys to capitalize and secure the win.
The Blue Devils’ performance showcased their determination to achieve their ultimate goal of reaching the Super Six. This victory against the fifth-ranked team further solidifies St. Marys’ position as a strong contender in their division.
With an impressive display of interceptions, rushing yards, and overall team effort, the St. Marys Blue Devils have proven themselves as a force to be reckoned with in their victory over Doddridge County.
