A suburban Kansas City woman has been charged with first-degree domestic assault after a passerby witnessed a shocking incident. Kaundria A. Morrison, aged 50 and from Raytown, now faces a Class A felony for causing serious physical injury. If convicted, she could face a sentence ranging from 10 to 30 years in prison.
The incident occurred on Monday evening when a concerned 911 caller reported seeing someone dragging a bloody body out of a house in the 5700 block of Blue Ridge Cutoff. Responding officers discovered a critically injured woman in the yard, with a severe gash on her forehead. They provided immediate first aid before the victim was rushed to the hospital. At present, her medical condition remains undisclosed.
While investigating the scene, officers noticed an open door at the house, which was marked with a trail of blood. Upon announcing themselves as police, Kaundria A. Morrison emerged from the hallway and was promptly taken into custody. With a red discoloration on her shirt and wearing clear plastic gloves, Morrison was a crucial suspect for the authorities.
Upon searching the house, the police discovered apparent blood in various areas, such as the hallway, living area, and doorway. A subsequent search warrant led to the discovery of a blood-covered hammer on an end table. Additionally, investigators found a broom with blood in its bristles, suggesting an attempted cleanup of blood within the residence.
Morrison declined to be interviewed by the police. So far, she has not had a defense attorney representing her. During an initial court appearance on Wednesday, the judge ordered that she be screened for legal representation by the Missouri Public Defender’s Office. An arrest warrant has been issued with a recommended bond of $300,000, or 10% secured.
The incident has shocked the local community, raising concerns about domestic violence and the safety of individuals in their own homes. The motive behind the assault remains unknown, and investigators will continue their work to uncover the truth.
Kaundria A. Morrison is scheduled to appear in court on August 30 for a bond review hearing. It is expected that more details will emerge as the investigation progresses. Residents are hopeful that justice will be served, and steps will be taken to ensure incidents like these are prevented in the future.
