A pair of individuals who were wanted by law enforcement authorities have been apprehended by a SWAT team in Essex County, according to officials. The successful operation, which took place at an apartment on Low Street in Newburyport, involved the deployment of specially-trained officers and a negotiator.
The suspects, Nicholas Hanson and Francesca Ferrara, both residents of Newburyport, had outstanding arrest warrants against them. Hanson, who had a history of resisting arrest, was wanted on multiple warrants, while Ferrara was wanted on a single warrant.
Upon discovering that the pair were inside the apartment but unable to establish contact, the police took precautionary measures. Considering Hanson’s previous track record, a perimeter was established around the building, and the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council SWAT Team was called in.
Fortunately, the apprehension was executed without any injuries. The NEMLEC SWAT team’s swift and skillful resolution of the situation was commended by Newburyport City Marshal Mark Murray, who also praised the officers involved for their exemplary work in de-escalating the situation and effecting the arrests safely.
Hanson has been remanded in custody without bail, while Ferrara was released on personal recognizance pending her scheduled court appearance the following day.
This successful operation serves as a testament to the dedication and proficiency of law enforcement officers in maintaining public safety and upholding the law.
