Lionsgate and STX Entertainment have announced a new distribution partnership for the North American market. This strategic deal will see Lionsgate handle the marketing and releases of future STX theatrical releases in the United States and Canada, as well as distribute STX’s extensive library across all platforms.
While the terms of the domestic distribution pact were not disclosed, it has been confirmed that Lionsgate will be responsible for marketing and releasing upcoming STX films in North America. This includes highly successful titles like Bad Moms and Hustlers. In addition, Lionsgate will distribute STX’s library, which includes popular films such as The Gentlemen and Molly’s Game, across various platforms.
The partnership will kick off with the release of Neil Burger’s thriller The Marsh King’s Daughter, starring Daisy Ridley, on October 6, 2023. Based on Karen Dionne’s bestselling novel and adapted by Elle Smith and Mark L. Smith, the psychological thriller follows a woman named Helena who appears to have an ordinary life with her husband and daughter. However, she hides a dark secret – her father is the infamous Marsh King, who had held Helena and her mother captive in the wilderness for years.
In addition to their distribution collaboration, Lionsgate and STX Entertainment also plan to jointly develop original TV series based on STX film titles. This partnership aims to leverage the strengths of both studios and create engaging content for audiences.
The news of this distribution partnership was announced by STX Entertainment CEO Noah Fogelson and Lionsgate COO Brian Goldsmith. Fogelson expressed the importance of theatrical exhibition for their company and highlighted the success they had previously achieved with director Neil Burger on The Upside.
Overall, this collaboration between Lionsgate and STX Entertainment is set to bring exciting new films and TV series to audiences across North America. With Lionsgate’s marketing and distribution expertise and STX Entertainment’s library of captivating titles, moviegoers can look forward to an array of compelling content in the coming years.
