India’s chief national badminton coach, Pullela Gopichand, has expressed that there is no reason for concern over PV Sindhu’s lack of consistency after she sustained an injury in August last year. Gopichand believes that the young Olympian will come back stronger despite suffering a first-round exit at the Singapore Open, after losing to world number 1 Akane Yamaguchi. Sindhu, a silver medallist in 2016 and a bronze medallist in the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics, has reached her peak form with a final and semi-final finish at the Madrid Spain Masters and Malaysia Masters, respectively. While Sindhu has experienced a mixed season, Gopichand believes she remains one of India’s top bet for the future. He also expressed pleasure over HS Prannoy’s men’s singles triumph at the Malaysia Masters last month, saying it was a good one. Gopichand is now poised to promote padel sport as an advisor, and feels the sport has the potential to become popular in India.
