Accessible J-Fest Event Honors Memory of Disabled Sister

The J-Fest event, organized by Kyley Dickinson in honor of her late disabled sister, aims to ensure that her sister’s memory lives on. After Jody’s passing in April 2021, Ms Dickinson decided to organize a live festival for family and friends since large funerals were not possible due to the lockdown.

The inaugural event last year exceeded expectations, with around 1,000 attendees showing up. Their overwhelming support and encouragement motivated Ms Dickinson to continue organizing the festival.

This year’s J-Fest will be held on Sunday, August 27, at Willowbrook Farm in Steventon. The festival promises not only great music and entertainment but also a strong focus on accessibility for all attendees. The organizers go above and beyond to accommodate individuals with additional needs, ensuring that everyone can fully enjoy their experience.

Notable features include revoLOOtion toilets, provided by the charity Vehicles for Change. These converted vehicles offer changing places and toilets for wheelchair users, equipped with hoist systems for independent use. Moreover, a trackway will be laid down on the festival grounds specifically for wheelchair users, setting J-Fest apart from other festivals that overlook this crucial aspect of accessibility.

In addition to creating an inclusive environment for guests, the festival aims to ensure performers feel equally accommodated. This year’s lineup comprises an array of talented artists, ranging from local bands to internationally recognized performers. Notably, The Autistix, an exceptional rock cover band with three autistic members, will grace the stage. Their presence serves as a testament to the limitless potential of individuals with disabilities.

Reflecting on her sister’s absence, Ms Dickinson feels a mix of happiness and sadness. She believes Jody would be ecstatic about the festival but cannot help but feel somber that she won’t be there to experience it firsthand.

Tickets for J-Fest can be purchased on the official website, ticketsource.co.uk/j-fest.

By prioritizing accessibility and inclusivity, J-Fest ensures that individuals with disabilities can fully immerse themselves in the joyous atmosphere of a live music event. This festival stands as a heartfelt tribute to the memory of a beloved sister and aims to inspire others while keeping her spirit alive.
